This online course is designed to support counsellors working with children and families by strengthening engagement skills, managing parent expectations, and expanding practical therapeutic tools. Drawing on nine years of experience as a Children’s Counsellor and work with over 1,000 clients, the facilitator provides practice-informed insights into developmentally appropriate counselling approaches.
The activity explores key foundations of effective child engagement, including emotional safety, predictability, rapport, sensory considerations, and play-based strategies. Participants are guided through a practical framework for managing
parent expectations in children’s counselling, with emphasis on ethical boundaries, communication, and balancing the needs of the child and family system.
The session includes demonstrations of child-friendly therapeutic exercises that support emotional expression, regulation, and engagement, with opportunities to reflect on clinical application. A facilitated question and discussion segment allows
participants to explore real-world challenges and consolidate learning for immediate use in practice.
