After moving to Moonta when my Mum became Principa After moving to Moonta when my Mum became Principal of Moonta Area School in Year 6, I quickly fell in love with the history of the Moonta Mines precinct. The stories, the heritage, and the dedication of the local volunteers who have kept that history alive for decades have always been something I’ve deeply admired. It’s a place that means a lot to so many people in our community.

Because of that connection, I’ve been following closely the recent lockout of volunteers at the Moonta Mines Heritage Site by the National Trust Head Office, and like many locals, I’ve felt a deep sense of concern about what this means for the future of the precinct.

For decades, the Moonta Mines Heritage Site has been run almost entirely by passionate local volunteers. The railway, museum, sweet shop, Miner’s Cottage and History Centre have operated through countless hours of dedication, with profits staying in the community and being reinvested into maintaining and preserving the site. For many volunteers, this has been a true labour of love, carried out with minimal involvement from Head Office.

Without warning, the National Trust Head Office recently announced the closure of the Moonta Mines precinct and suspended the volunteers, with the intention of taking over the operation of the site.

For many in the community, this raises important questions about local ownership of heritage, the value of volunteer contribution, and how decisions that affect regional communities are made. Places like the Moonta
Mines precinct are more than just tourist attractions - they are part of our shared story 🫶🏻

✨ Soul Sessions – Moonta Bay ✨ 8th February marke ✨ Soul Sessions – Moonta Bay ✨

8th February marked the second sold-out Soul Sessions at Seagate Hotel, and what a beautiful afternoon it was 💛

I loved starting the day with gorgeous door prizes from Kara Rendell from @karapilates_ and Tarnya Wilson from @puravidahealth_collective, before diving into a grounding EFT meditation.

We then flowed into a nourishing Yin Yoga session with Soul Sessions favorite Kerri Oakley, beautifully layered with a soul-soothing sound immersion by Chelsea from @sing.your.soul_soundhealing 🎶

The afternoon was perfectly rounded out with incredible platters by @the_roaming_chef_catering, champagne, laughter, and connection 🥂

A huge thank you to @tideandthrivemedia for capturing these stunning moments so beautifully.

✨ Soul Sessions will return to Moonta Bay in August ✨

Keep watching this space for details, we can’t wait to do it all again 🤍
